What is Materials Science and Engineering?

Throughout history, materials have played a major role in advancing civilization. The latter half of the 20th century witnessed an explosion of new materials and new ways to use natural and engineered materials.

Graduates of Virginia Tech's MSE program work in fields such as fiber optics, pharmaceuticals, oil and gas production, metal casting, semiconductors, cosmetics, failure analysis, patent examination, equipment design, quality assurance, technical management, sales and marketing, product development, and many more.
