Karen Maud holds a B.S. degree in Materials Science & Engineering from Virginia Tech and a Masters in Materials Science and Engineering from NC State. She started her career in GE’s prestigious Edison Engineering Development Program and has remained with GE Power for over 10 years, focused on industrial gas turbine engineering. She has advanced within the company with roles spanning from conceptual design to repair process development for which she received several internal awards for her engineering work as well as a patent. Projects in these roles have included elements of materials selection, mechanical design, new repair process development, and supply chain deployment using welding/brazing/ceramic coatings, additive design and manufacturing, and digital integration. Currently, she leads global, cross-functional teams to target business challenges at the intersection of design and repair engineering.
From 2015-2019, she was also the Corporate Recruiting Leader for Virginia Tech for all GE businesses. In this role she led a multi-disciplinary team to hire students from Virginia Tech, strategically partnering with the university to achieve shared recruiting, research, and economic development goals.
