  • Material synthesis, processing, and fundamental studies with focus on particulate materials
  • Energy material selection, design, processing, and fundamental understanding
  • Composites, hybrids, functionally/structurally graded materials, porous materials
  • Polymer derived ceramics and composites
  • Ultrahigh surface area materials, coatings
  • Diversity in engineering education
